Chartered Institute of Linguists Hong Kong Society (CIOLHKS)
The Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) is UK's only national and international body serving professional linguists (translators, interpreters, language educationalists and those in business, the professions and government). Founded in 1910, CIOL is now the leading language professional body in UK and one of the most significant language institutions in the world, with its qualifications internationally recognised. The Hong Kong Society of CIOL (CIOLHKS) was established in 1984. It is committed to promoting professional use of languages in Hong Kong. It organises professional development functions for local members and the public, and offers consultancy services to education institutions and schools both in Hong Kong and China. The Hong Kong Society is now the biggest regional society of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
College of Arts, Tunghai University
Five departments and one individual graduate institute are included in College of Arts : Chinese (undergraduate, master, and doctor), Foreign Languages and Literature (undergraduate and master), History (undergraduate and master), Philosophy (undergraduate, master, and doctor), Japanese Language and Literature (undergraduate and master). Foreign and Japanese Languages and Literature departments in the College of Arts provide students with foreign language teaching resources, aim to help students develop their language abilities, enlarge their global aspects, and gain more control over their futures in an increasingly multilingual and interdependent world.
School of Education and Languages, The Open University of Hong Kong
The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) was established in 1989. It is the first self-financing university established by the Hong Kong SAR Government. Being one of the five schools of the OUHK, the School of Education and Languages (E&L) offers a wide range of programmes in education and languages and has been playing an important role in initial teacher education, professional development of teachers in Hong Kong and enhancing the language proficiency of students in the OUHK. The School offers 3 streams of programmes ranging from the sub-degree level to the doctoral level. The education stream offers programmes in Early Childhood Education and the double degree of Bachelor in English Language Studies and English Language Teaching whereas the language streams provide two single degree programmes, one in English Language Studies and the other in Applied Chinese Language Studies.
School of General Education and Languages, Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong
The Technological and Higher Education Institute (THEi) was established in 2012 by the Vocational Training Council of Hong Kong to offer innovative accredited degree programmes with a vocational and professional orientation. The three faculties offer specialised programmes that are not only developed with significant industry input, but are also much needed by the public and private sectors. The institute produces work-ready graduates who possess expert knowledge and transferrable skills by adopting the “learn and do” approach which encourages students to apply specialised knowledge and skills to real-world issues. Aside from subject-related training, the importance of General Education (GE) is also stressed in the undergraduate curriculum at THEi. The School of General Education and Languages is dedicated to preparing students for lifelong learning and whole-person development. Its GE curriculum consists of language modules in Chinese and English as well as core and elective modules in Humanities, Sciences, Social Sciences and other cross disciplinary areas, through which students will be able to enhance their language competencies, foster broadly-applicable skills, and develop their cultural and ethical values.
